The Happiness Jar

The Happiness Jar 🍓
(simple, but surprisingly powerful)
I want to share a little practice with you. It’s called The Happiness Jar.

And let me say right away: there’s nothing complicated about it, but the effect is like opening a jar of jam and discovering someone secretly added extra sugar.

What you need:
— a jar with a lid (a glass jam jar is perfect — it already understands the assignment),
— a pen or a marker,
— and small pieces of paper.

Every evening, each member of the family (or a couple, or even one very serious grown-up) writes down one good thing from the day.

Not an achievement.

Not a life milestone.

Just something simple, like:
“Dad sneezed in a funny way,”
“The cat sat in a slipper,”
“Someone smiled at me.”

You write it down — and into the jar it goes.
Day after day.
So the jar slowly fills up. Like it should.
And then comes a day that feels a bit grey.
The mood is off.
And, frankly, it’s just Tuesday.
That’s when you take one smile out of the jar.

And suddenly you realize:
— the day isn’t that bad,
— life is actually quite alright,
— and people around you were trying to make you smile, even when you didn’t notice it.

And you know what?
Even the sweetest jam sometimes loses…
to the smiles hidden inside that jar 💛
If you feel like it — try it tonight.
The jar will wait.
